Valentino Rossi, the legendary MotoGP racer, has found a new thrill in competing at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Having retired from MotoGP in 2021, Rossi transitioned to car racing, making his debut in the World Endurance Championship. Despite facing pressure, Rossi expressed that racing at Le Mans is more enjoyable for him compared to his MotoGP days.
Partnered with Ahmad Al Harthy for his second Le Mans 24 race, Rossi’s team faced challenges last year with a non-finish due to a crash. This year, with Kelvin van der Linde joining the lineup, Rossi’s team showed promise, topping the LMGT3 qualifying session. Rossi highlighted the joy of racing cars and collaborating with the team at such a prestigious event like Le Mans.
Reflecting on the differences between MotoGP and endurance racing, Rossi mentioned that while the pressure may be less in WEC, his commitment and effort remain unwavering. Despite the physical challenges of car racing at an older age, Rossi emphasized his dedication to improving his skills and working with a diverse range of talented drivers.
Rossi commended the shared driving experience in endurance racing, where he can learn from and collaborate with top drivers like Maxime Martin, Raffaele Marciello, and Augusto Farfus. Unlike MotoGP, where each rider has a unique bike, endurance racing allows for a consistent driving experience, enhancing Rossi’s enjoyment and learning curve in this new discipline.
As Rossi prepared for the race, he expressed confidence in the improved performance of his BMW M4 GT3 compared to the previous year. With enhancements in electronics and car stability, Rossi felt optimistic about the team’s chances. However, he acknowledged the stiff competition from Ferrari and Porsche, emphasizing the unpredictable nature of endurance racing and the importance of adapting to changing conditions.
Looking ahead to the race, Rossi anticipated a dry and competitive event, drawing on his experience from the previous year to strategize for success. With a focus on concentration and pushing the limits, Rossi aimed to leverage his team’s improved car performance and his own driving skills to secure a strong finish at Le Mans.
As Rossi continues to navigate his car racing career, his passion for competition and continuous improvement shines through, showcasing his adaptability and resilience as he transitions from MotoGP to the world of endurance racing.
